John does not focus on the law but on Christ, and this is evident from the high Christology of John’s Gospel.
Jesus is the Christ and the Son of God (20.31). He is the Son of Man and the eternal Logos. Indeed, John emphasises that Jesus is divine (1.1,18; 20.28) and existed with the Father from the beginning (1.1; 17.5). The law, rightly interpreted, bears witness to Christ, and thus those who do not put their faith in Jesus as the Christ do not rightly interpret the law (5.38-39, 46).
