Evangelical organisation Church Society's annual Fellowship of Word and Spirit (FWS) Conference is an event with plenty of time for genuine fellowship, friendship, spiritual encouragement, reflection and prayer.
Alongside engaging seminars, talks and Q&A sessions with speakers, there is space for resting from the frantic pace of ministry and time to enthusiastically worship God together in music and song.
Revd Dr James Hughes, Vicar of St Alkmund’s Duffield, Derbyshire, delivered this year’s Bible readings on the book of Jonah, underlining the need to stay faithful to God, whose Word powerfully "works." James also highlighted God’s saving grace and His care and concern for His creation, asking whether we really believe God doesn’t give up - and if yes, what difference that makes in our lives and ministries.
Revd Aled Seago, minister of Emmanuel Church, Cheadle Hulme, considered the Fatherhood of God. Aled emphasised the need to properly understand God and what He is like and to remember God’s character, greatness and perfection, which gives us real pastoral comfort and resilience.
Revd Dr Jason Ward, vicar of St. Mary’s Chaddesden, Derby, examined the mediatorial work of Christ, a completed and on-going work, from before creation through to eternity. Considering different aspects of Christ’s mediatorial work during different periods in church history, Jason reminded us that no one can put aside what God the Son has done.
Revd Dave Walker, vicar of Christ Church North Finchley in London, considered the work and person of the Holy Spirit, who speaks through Scripture, works to transform, guide and comfort, and leads us to God.
Finally Rob Munro, Bishop of Ebbsfleet, underlined the need for clear knowledge and understanding of Jesus, who is with, over and for us.
