Owen Milton has done us a great service is setting out in 'cameo' the lives of 33 missionaries, each chapter covering approximately six pages.
Here we have old and new names, giving variety and continuity from 1607-1986. From the famous to the less-known, but all through the theme of 'God at work' predominates. These cameos do not lose their usefulness by their brevity, indeed they can be a valuable stimulant to more diligent study. This is a book which could be read on the train . . .
It will enlighten the reader; for example - what about a missionary on a convict ship going to Australia in 1787 Samuel Marsden by name? 'Never heard of him' you say. Nor had this reviewer, but it is thrilling reading and encourages the reader to see how God has worked in the most unlikely circumstances.
