I was not at Word Alive in 1996, but I am very glad that the talks given at the conference by Dr. Roy Clements have been made available in this book.
The whole of the book of Galatians is covered in just four chapters, but nowhere does it feel as though the author is racing or leaving hard issues to one side. All of the major themes of the epistle are covered with a refreshing lightness of touch.
Each of the chapters are models of interacting both with the text and with the contemporary world. In each of the expositions a range of contemporary issues are dealt with, for example, the question of truth generally and the truth of the gospel in particular (with an intriguing contemporary parable on house fires and postmodernism, chapter 1); the Cross, the promise of God and the law - legalism and faith (chapter 2); from slavery to the law to the freedom of sonship (chapter 3); and the 'Jekyll-plus-the-Spirit versus Hyde' of Christian living (chapter 4).
There is something here for everyone: stretching the mind, warming the heart, and giving confidence in the reliability and the relevance of the truth of God's word. I enjoyed this book - and I have no hesitation in recommending it. It is a bargain at £3.99! This book will keep us (or set us) on the road to freedom!
