By Grace Evangelical Church

Onesimus Books. 50 pages. £1.75

This book identifies itself as a simple course, introducing the Christian faith and showing what the Bible teaches. In each of these areas, it does so with a good measure of success.

12 studies take the reader through key Christian doctrines with helpful summary headings supported with a large number of biblical references. It is Bible-shaped in its contents, faithfully dealing with the sinfulness of man, the eternity of hell, Christ's person and work and the Spirit's work of applying Christ's work to the believer. There are good chapters on the church and the Christian life but there is very little mention of evangelism in either of these.

It does pass over some complex subjects quickly and uses technical words which the young Christian may struggle to understand. Some readers of the book may be unhappy with its teaching on baptism and particular atonement.

I would use this book with a group of young Christians, though not intending to cover all the material.
