David Samuel was a leader in the fight against the imposition of the ordination of women in the Church of England. He has now resigned, and leads the Church of England (Continuing), an attempt to maintain a Church of England where there is Reformed teaching and worship.

This book is a collection of short articles by him, all but one from English Churchman, a rearguard Protestant newspaper for Anglicans. The 40 chapters deal with issues and events in the present-day life of the nation and the Church of England which are worthy of comment.

Because of their origin, the articles are extremely short and so a little thin, and the atmosphere one breathes throughout seems to be that of a bygone age. Among the collection one can find interesting brief comments on the consensus view of morality in the West, Holy Trinity Brompton religion, and the trends seen in the European Union.

He points out that 'flying bishops protect dissenters on one point of conscience but still leaves untouched the problem that every clergyman licensed by a bishop must assent and swear obedience to the canons of the church which now require the recognition of women as lawfully ordained priests.'
