This is an unusual book, so you first need to understand just what you would be getting for your £3.50!
The book examines the Ten Commandments one at a time. In each case, the commandment is stated, a very brief introduction is given, and then there are two lengthy sections - one listing the duties required, the other listing the sins forbidden, in that commandment. The format is to state the duty required or sin forbidden, and then print out the text of a Bible passage which supports that point. These passages are printed out without comment or explanation. In selecting his material, the author draws extensively on the Larger Catechism of the Westminster Assembly.
What won't the book do for you? It doesn't really set out to answer the question set by the title! Sometimes it will leave you wondering why a certain Scripture is quoted or a duty is said to be required by a particular commandment. You will be disappointed if you want a reasoned argument concerning how to interpret particular Commandments.
What will the book do for you? It will give you a very useful resource for prayerfully meditating on the Ten Commandments. As such, I warmly commend it.
