This is a thoroughly researched book which carries its scholarship lightly and provides a competent, readable and conservative explanation of the Book of Exodus.
It is a welcome addition to the literature on Exodus since there is nothing comparable and contemporary available. In his brief discussion of introductory issues it is, perhaps and in the light of current evangelical discussions, surprising that he adopts the late date for the exodus.
Currid is to be commended for the way in which he places Exodus in its literary setting, demonstrating how the themes and purposes of the earlier work link and develop in Exodus. A further commendable feature is the attempt to give sections on application at the close of each piece of exposition. Ultimately, however, these disappoint. They tend to a rather 'flat' biblical theological method which focuses on the moral and/or typology of the story rather than seeking to uncover and apply the original author's intention. I was left with the feeling that for all the excellent application I had not been led to the heart of the message of the book.
