REFORMATION: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW
By Carl R. Trueman
Bryntirion Press. 99 pages. £4.95
ISBN 1 85049 175 5

This book consists of four lectures given at the Word and Spirit Conference of the Evangelical Theological College of Wales in 2000. This Conference 'highlights the authority of the Bible in all areas of faith and practice'.

Carl Trueman's objective was a fresh look at the theology of the Reformation. He shows that the theology of the Reformers was biblical and systematic. He goes on to argue that such theology is eminently relevant at the present time. To establish his case he feels the need to rescue Reformation theology from some of its friends as well as from its critics. What is needed is not a blind application of Reformation teaching but a careful appraisal and application. He considers that too often the Reformers have been quarried for answers to ecumenism and in this process much of the wealth of their teaching has been lost. While the polemical value of their legacy should not be ignored, there is so much more to be gained.
