By Fred Stainthorpe

Available from 16 Thompson Street, Willenhall, West Midlands WV13 1SY

If you like a walk down someone else's memory lane you may enjoy this booklet. Fred Stainthorpe will take you to the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) via the north east of England where he spent his childhood and youth.

In a homely style he describes the influences and avenues which led to missionary service with BMS, and records a miscellany of experiences of his time in Africa.

This is not a profound missionary journal, and the discerning reader might wish for a deeper insight into the call and spiritual struggles of the author. The section entitled 'Light and darkness' delves a little more deeply into some essentials, but the account is generally more suitable as bedtime reading than as a serious read. However, under the heading 'After many years', the author does offer some concluding reflections worth considering by anyone who takes a responsible attitude to Christian service.

Proceeds from the sale of this booklet will go to 'Tools with a Mission' (TWAM) which collects, renovates and distributes tools to people in developing countries.
