JOHN MARSHALL
Life and Writings
By John J. Murray. Banner of Truth. 296 pages. £14.95
ISBN 0 85151 902 4

This is a fine book about a fine man. It is a worthy tribute to John Marshall, Christian, husband, and father, pastor, evangelist and patriot. It was my privilege to know him as a colleague and friend in recent years.

The front cover pictures him in the role I remember with much affection, as an open-air preacher in Trafalgar Square, where since the mid-1990s, the Biblical Gospel Ministries have held twice-yearly gospel rallies. It was always John who opened the proceedings in his own inimitable way: ‘We stand here this afternoon in the name of the living and eternal God’. Along with others, he led the way for this witness to take place in Central London in the midst of an increasingly secular society. He was not content for the nation’s demise to increase without raising his voice against this trend. It was not for him to concede to the nonsense of political correctness in any way!
