Eight short chapters, yet full of interesting information regarding William Tyndale, his time, friends, colleagues and places: Gloucestershire, Oxford, London, Cambridge and Belgium. There are maps and notes on places to visit. It is a thoroughly useful history and travel guide through the beginning of the 16th century that Tyndale inhabited.
The guide stays in his world; it shows his life and his struggles to bring to fulfilment his life’s work, to obtain funding and help for something which is for the good of all of us — God’s word in our own language. Finally, he was martyred for his work.
The guide takes you on tours round places connected with Tyndale. It stands on its own as well, even if you are not going to go and visit anywhere. It is a good little book if you want to gain an idea of the life and times of our brother Tyndale. Another plus point is that it encourages us to look further into the life of Tyndale and his great work — translating God’s word from the original languages into English.
I recommend the guide to all who want to know a little more of Tyndale, to look into history, to understand some more and be enriched. Have a good read, maybe a good time travelling. As for me, I am hoping for a day in Antwerp.
