Super Saviour is a colourful hardback book ‘suitable for anyone, but especially ages 2-11’, written by well-known Aussie singer and songwriter Colin Buchanan.
Each double page spread unpacks a Bible doctrine. Topics include Jesus the Saviour, sin, the Bible, attributes of God and aspects of following Christ. The pages are colourfully and humourously illustrated and the explanations of Bible truth and words are in clear, child-friendly language, although the reason for the arrangement of the topics is in some cases not obvious. At the end of each topic Colin gives a Bible passage to read, a prayer to pray and the title of one of his songs on his CD Super Saviour.
The book includes an audio CD, featuring Colin reading the text of the book and brief excerpts from the songs. The full words of the songs are included at the end of the book. However, you will need to buy the separate songs CD (Super Saviour) to listen to the songs in full. (And the order of the songs on this CD is different from the order in the book.) The songs are clear, lively and memorable and are a great way for children to learn Bible doctrine.
Although a child could read this book on his or her own, it would probably be better to read a topic at a time with an adult, talking about it together. It could work well for Bible time with a single child or as a family.
If your children don’t know Colin Buchanan’s songs, this book, together with the CD of the songs, would be a great gift and a great way of impressing truth about God from the Bible in their minds.
