This little book argues that the 1643 Solemn League and Covenant is still binding on the countries of the British Isles and beyond (hence the Anglosphere of the title) and that our nations are under God’s judgment because this covenant has been neglected.
One sympathises with the sentiment that a basic knowledge of key events is necessary to understand one’s society (p.11) and the 1643 Covenant was certainly a significant event. And no doubt, like the author, we yearn for our nations to return to the Lord.
However, it seems to me that this book is misguided in seeking such a revival from a renewed awareness of this covenant and its significance. Michael Wagner argues that the covenant is still binding on the English-speaking nations, but surely the more important point is that it is the gospel which is binding in its call to all people everywhere to obey God in repenting and believing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our efforts as Christians today should be focused above all on the preaching and propagating of that message rather than the message of this book.
