The question that this short and helpful DVD seeks to answer is this: can a Bible-believing Christian accept the scientific account of the so-called Big Bang? According to the five Christian physicists interviewed, the answer is ‘yes’.
The DVD does not address questions regarding the age of the universe or other issues surrounding the science of origins. Rather, it only seeks to deal directly with the question of the moment of creation. Comprising six short segments, it explores some of the science underlying the Big Bang theory, some of the evidence in its favour and some of the scientific questions that it yet leaves unanswered.
Interviews with the Christian scientific experts unfold how they see the relationship between their science and their faith. For myself, I found it very encouraging to see how these scientists saw their faith as giving meaning to their scientific investigations and how, in turn, the science helps us appreciate God’s creation and glorify him all the more. The scientific evidence neither proves nor disproves the existence of God.
A definite beginning
However, to those already convinced of his existence through his revelation in the Lord Jesus, it provides clear hints as to his character — his power, his creativity and his glory. Importantly, the DVD observes that the Big Bang theory supports the biblical statement that the universe had a definite beginning (it has not existed forever). At this level at least, the scientific account of the Big Bang presents no difficulties for the believer in the Bible. Not only so, but the beauty and mathematical structure of the laws of nature point us towards the mind that is behind it all. I would recommend this DVD to anyone interested in exploring this issue.
