STORMING HOME
The story of Billy Gilvear
By Billy Gilvear & Eric Gaudion
Monarch Books. 208 pages. £8.99
ISBN 978 0 857 212 559

This is not just the breathtaking story of a man who experienced the highs and lows of life before being rescued. There is a sting in this tale for we who are Christian parents.

Billy Gilvear was born in Africa to godly missionary parents, grew up in Scotland and at 16 joined the Army. His life became increasingly dominated by drink, drugs and violence. Leaving the Army, he worked as bodyguard to a number of ‘A-list’ celebs before spiralling downwards to the point where he lost all. In true prodigal style — envying the farm animals where he was staying, and planning to take his own life — he ‘came to his senses’. Then, ‘from nowhere’, thoughts of his parents, their gospel work and Scriptures buried deep within, came to mind. The love and grace of God overwhelmed and changed him instantly. Gradually his life was re-assembled and he now is in full-time Christian ministry in the UK.
