HOW CHURCH CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Answers to the Ten Most Common Questions
about Church
By Josh Moody
Christian Focus. 84 pages. £4.99
ISBN 978 1 781 916 117

Our regular columnist Josh Moody is senior pastor of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois. And he has a great deal of wisdom.

As we look to share the gospel we hope that at some stage our friends will actually turn up at church. When they do, and as they get to observe what goes on, they will likely have questions. Often those questions are not dealt with directly in the expository ministry.

Questions rarely answered

Josh has written a useful book which addresses common sense questions which many ordinary people – non-Christian and Christian – might well have, but which rarely get answered. These include things like: ‘Do I need to go to church if I am a Christian?’;‘Why is there so much politics in church life?’; ‘Why is preaching important?’ and ‘What should I look for in a healthy church?’.Ten queries are dealt with and each short chapter of teaching on these questions concludes with a short story which will help readers to see what Josh’s answers look like in real life. The book is solidly evangelical but non-denominational, so some of the answers are perhaps a bit more loose than some would like, but they are full of generosity and thoughtful advice based in Scripture. The closing chapter gives motivation for getting involved and taking church seriously.

I think the book has great worth and would make a helpful ‘book of the month’ on church bookstalls for church members to read and be reminded of what church is meant to be about, or to help non-Christians make progress as they consider the Christian faith.
