THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO HEAVEN
By
John Blanchard
EP. 297 pages. £10.99
ISBN 978 0 852 349 380

There’s a good chance you will have read a John Blanchard book at least once in your life (my first one was Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?) given that he is such a prolific and popular author, writing to be understood by a wide audience.

If you’re familiar with him, then you will have a good idea of what to expect. It’s a book about heaven by John Blanchard. It does what it says on the tin.

Pastoral help

It’s a dependable, Bible-based journey through the terrain of the great future hope of Christians, with various pauses along the way to, for example, overview Revelation, explore salvation and explain assurance. Pastoral help is measured out, accompanied by a myriad of quotations from his ency-clopaedic knowledge of other authors.

If you're looking for exhaustive discussions of high-level theological issues, you may need to look elsewhere. But if you’re a Christian who wants to think through heaven as a serious issue, if you’re a new Christian coming to the subject for the first time, or if you want some guidance and reassurance, then this will be of great help. It would also (like so many of Dr Blanchard’s books) be suitable for someone exploring the Christian faith, if they are happy to read a book this size.

An enjoyable journey through an enjoyable subject.
