I loved this book! In spite of what appears to be a self-indulgent exercise in self promotion (a publisher publishing articles promoting its own publications), for me, it was a real page-turner.
Over 30 of the ‘great and good’ from the contemporary Reformed scene have written short autobiographical articles on how specific Banner books have shaped their lives. Geoff Thomas, Albert Mohler, Alistair Begg, Sharon James, Maurice Roberts, R. C. Sproul and John MacAuthur, to name but a few, share the impact a particular book has had on them.
Reformed classics
The books reviewed are mostly republished classics of the Reformed faith, written by such worthies as Baxter, Bunyan, Calvin, Owen and Ryle. There is also a healthy sprinkling of more modern classics such as John Murray’s Redemption Accomplished and Applied and Iain Murray’s The Forgotten Spurgeon.
The articles are concise, devotional and inspirational. In them you not only get an insight into the books that are recommended, but also into the life of the author of the review. This is an excellent book which encourages us to read the great and most influential books of past generations.
The book is dedicated to Iain and Jean Murray and is a celebration of the great contribution they have made to Reformed publishing in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Useful to introduce serious-minded young Christians to good books and heart-warming to those longer established in the faith, I heartily recommend this book to everyone.
