HOW TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE LAST
A Husband’s Guide
By John Benton
Day One. 32 pages. £3
ISBN 978 1 846 254 796

With a growing number of books on marriage recently written by well-known evangelicals, I wondered if there was any need for yet another book – or two.

But there is a place for something brief like this. There are two books here, each one just 32 pages long, and both called How To Make Your Marriage Last. One is a guide for husbands (written by John Benton) and the other one for wives (by Ann Benton).

The husband’s guide has four chapters on the Foundation, Focus, Fun and Friendship of marriage. The chapters are practical and applicable for people who have been married for 30 years or more, as well as being particularly relevant for newlyweds.

He writes candidly and helpfully about the physical relationship. It is also helpful to be reminded that although husbands and wives change as people, as we get older, God never changes. This means that Christians can have strong, growing relationships because we have the Lord at the centre of our marriage.

So for those with little time for longer books and in need of reminding about the blessings and commitment of marriage, this is warmly and strongly recommended.
