THE AMAZING CROSS
Transforming Lives Today
By Elizabeth McQuoid
IVP (Keswick Resources). 65 pages. £4.99
ISBN 978 1 783 594 184

Elizabeth McQuoid has put together six excellent studies for individuals or small groups on the theme of ‘The Cross’.

The subjects covered are the love of God, the wrath of God, justification, redemption, reconciliation and suffering. Each study is attractively laid out with apt quotations from various authors being used to enhance our understanding of the different truths being considered.

Useful books are recommended at the end of each study for those wishing to ‘go deeper’ into the different doctrines. At the close of the book there are some guidelines for group leaders.

Explanation and application

One of the great strengths of this study guide is the excellent balance that has been found between explaining the truth and then effectively and sensitively applying it to our everyday experience. The studies are wonderfully faithful to Scripture with a difficult subject for today’s world (and church), the wrath of God, being handled superbly.

To benefit from these studies it is not necessary to have previously read the author’s fuller work, The Amazing Cross, which she coauthored with her husband Jeremy, although the two volumes do very much belong together. Keswick Ministries are to be commended for this publication.

If you’re wondering – ‘Should I use it for my evangelistic Bible Study?’ – probably not. Well presented and not complicated, but very much designed for those who already have faith and a desire to grow in their Christian lives.
