A Wrinkle in Time is a visually stunning, imaginative science-fiction adventure film about the battle between good and evil. It’s also a very human story about individuals and family.
Director Ava DuVernay and director of photography Tobias Schiessler shoot the film in a very unusual, rich and colourful way, full of warmth and light.
Across the universe
However, light is threatened by darkness, which tries to spread everywhere. Meg (Storm Reid), her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), and her friend Calvin (Levi Miller) are summoned across the universe by Mrs Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), Mrs Who (Mindy Kaling), and Mrs Which (Oprah Winfrey) to find Meg’s missing father (Chris Pine) and fight the darkness.
Tempted to doubt
In a genuinely scary third act, the characters go to rescue her father from a planet controlled by darkness and are tested in many ways, as it plays tricks with their minds and feelings, tempting them to doubt their value and give up.
However, even in the face of fear and despair, love and hope prevail (c.f. 1 John 4.18, Romans 5.5). Light ultimately triumphs over darkness (c.f. John 1.5).
