Creed II is a sequel to both Rocky IV and Creed, but it also works as a story on its own terms. It’s a gritty, moving, character-driven story tempered by fun, cheesy, inspiring montage sequences.
The ruthless boxer Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), issues a public challenge to Adonis Johnson / Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). In Rocky IV (spoilers), Adonis’ father Apollo Creed died in the ring at the hands of Ivan Drago, then Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) took him on and defeated him at the height of the Cold War.
