HIS TESTIMONIES, MY HERITAGE
Women of color on the word of God
Edited by Kristie Anyabwille
The Good Book Company 240 pages. £8.99.
ISBN 978 1 784 983 758

I’m not a person of colour, a woman, or an American, and I don’t recognise the names of any of the 27 contributors – but I enjoyed and was blessed by this book.

This is a devotional book on Psalm 119 – each contributor takes a section and shares from it. Their background is varied – Black, Mexican, Chinese, etc. – and they speak from their experience of applying God’s word as they uncover the depth in this lovely psalm. You will be encouraged, challenged and thrilled to be reminded of the deep relevance of Scripture to daily life. You will learn some things about Psalm 119, a lot about the Lord, how the word enriches our lives, and how in different difficulties and opportunities God uses Scripture.

Where others are coming from

Of course, there are a few places where cultural differences show – but for me that enriches the book. It is great to see God’s word working in other situations and to appreciate where other believers are coming from. As the last comment on the last verse says: ‘O Father … make us all mini Psalm 119s displaying your glory through humble dependence on your word at every turn’.

This is a book to enjoy and to pass on. I trust that as you read a chapter a day you will find your love for the Lord stimulated, your appreciation of His word increased, and your daily walk helped.
