Owen Strachan is a theologian from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Gavin Peacock is a pastor in Calgary.
This theologian-pastor combination produces an excellent balance of God’s truth applied to real life in this timely series on sexuality and identity.
First, we need to preach to ourselves. What does the Bible teach about lust? is a superb little book. The authors show how sinful hearts express themselves in lust, but that the way out of lust is not mere behaviour modification but heart change, looking to Jesus. There are also lots of practical tips in the FAQ at the end. Peacock’s powerful ‘Delineation of desire’ approach is introduced in this volume and repeated in the others.
In the second volume, What does the Bible teach about homosexuality?, Strachan and Peacock show that homosexuality is clearly against God’s created order. Homosexuals, along with everyone else, need to be called to repent and turn to Jesus Christ, who is the only source of truly satisfying identity. Then all Christians are called to lead holy lives, repenting of sinful desires, from where sinful actions come. There is again a very practical set of FAQs at the end.
In the third book, What does the Bible teach about transgenderism?, Strachan and Peacock cover the ideology of transgenderism and how to refute it with the Biblical view of gender and identity. The only hope for anyone, whether they agree with their birth sex or not, is to believe the gospel. Pastoral issues are also covered sensitively.
