While not technically a podcast, these recordings of Wayne Grudem’s lessons on all the chapters in his book Systematic Theology, which he taught at Scottsdale Bible Church from 2005–2009, are available to listen to in bitesize chunks in podcast form.
Grudem is an American evangelical theologian, seminary professor, and author. He co-founded the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and served as the general editor of the ESV Study Bible.
Anyone who has read or even seen the size of the original, written version of Grudem’s Systematic Theology will know it’s hefty enough to do some serious damage if dropped from a great height!
I haven’t read the book cover to cover (in my opinion it is far more a reference/ resource/study guide rather than something that needs to be read in its entirety systematically – pun intended), but I have taken great pleasure in referring to the book for specific subjects when preaching or teaching theology.
Although the recordings for the podcast are over 10-15 years old, Grudem’s teaching and application remain relevant. We know that theology does not conform to the culture or age and it is refreshing to engage with material that is not trying to ‘meet me where I am’, but teach of the infallible word and teachings of God.
The whole lecture series has been put onto the podcast in one go. This helps with not having to wait weekly for the content.
The content is dense and in all honesty, at least when you’re reading it (sometimes it comes out better in the podcasts) you feel like you’re reading through treacle. But the fruit outweighs the cost for this Biblical, helpful and insightful resource. A ‘Theology 101’, if you will.
