Sound Plus Doctrine hosted by Bob Kauflin and David Zimmer, is the podcast of Sovereign Grace Music, designed for those who plan, lead, or participate in their church’s Sunday gatherings.
I stumbled across this podcast in the ‘suggested’ section of my Spotify homepage, and I’m glad I did. I’ve not yet seen a podcast devoted to teaching and guiding worship leaders and members of a worship band.
Kauflin is the director of Sovereign Grace Music (SGM) and serves as a pastor at Sovereign Grace Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Zimmer is a producer and songwriter for SGM.
This is a seasoned podcast, already in its fourth series posting podcasts weekly.
The subjects vary, but are always practical and touch on issues that all worship bands face. For example, ‘Responding to a Sermon with a Song’. The episode that I listened to (Season 4, Episode 7), was ‘How to Be a Good Team Member’.
These are both men that have (combined) decades of experience in leading God’s people into worship and serving in worship teams. And the focus of this episode was that worship leaders and members of the band are as much part of the church like every other congregant and are to serve as Jesus has taught us.
This podcast is honest and speaks much Biblical truth. Anyone in any position in a worship band, whether leading or ‘just’ playing in the background, will benefit from the subjects and the wisdom imparted through this podcast.
