OpenSong is a free, open-source software application created to manage lyrics, chords, lead sheets, overheads, computer projection, and more.
With Covid, and the vast majority of churches going online, software for services has been needed more than ever. There is a myriad of applications out there, and this one I am reviewing is just a drop in the ocean.
OpenSong is a program I know and use personally at my church in South Africa. The budget for software is very small and a free but useful solution was needed.
Great – but not for everyone
The program is simple, customisable, yet has lots of features. You can add any chosen font, the background of the projected lyrics and lots more. There can be separate displays for the worship band and chords can be printed directly from the program.
This program, however, will not be to everyone’s taste. It is a very basic user interface and design. It is not modern, it does not do anything flash or fancy in its presentation. The program will not compete with the likes of ProPresenter or anything similar. However, it will tick many of the boxes for a local church not needing anything over the top, but just a program they can store their songs on and display simply for their congregation.
