Seek and Find is a beautifully illustrated book for younger children, with a simple synopsis of the Bible verses and a host of images to look for on each page. Wonderful for encouraging counting – and conversation about the Christmas story while your child does it. My children loved All About… Christmas for its historical approach to Jesus’ birth. It grounds the Bible’s events in real time, with plenty of fact boxes and information scattered throughout, explaining the Bible story and Christmas celebration. Words and concepts in the Bible text are explained too, ultimately pointing to our need for Jesus and the rescue found in Him.
It is a great blessing to have an advent devotional which works for children of different ages together or which can be reused as your children grow and mature: The God of Amazing Gifts does just this, as each day gives a selection of questions to help you dig deeper and apply the passages. It is refreshing that this doesn’t feel like a rehash of the usual advent passages, but helps us see from the whole Bible that God is the best giver with the best gift.
Gifts of Grace has daily readings, listing a gift from God and a verse this blessing relates to. The daily readings are easy to read and include plenty of illustrations that help us understand and appreciate the gift more.
The Ultimate Christmas Wishlist has a very relatable introduction and quickly gets to the message of the gospel. Brilliant as a giveaway, as it’s not dependent on existing Biblical knowledge, but also helpful for believers to see afresh the enormity and brilliance of Jesus’ coming. What a wonderful gift it would be for us all this Christmas to get stuck into a book that helps us appreciate Jesus’ birth more!
