There is no particular theme this month, just new titles that have arrived on my desk that would make excellent gifts for children and young people.
Christmas Collection is a box set of five well-loved Christmas books that proclaim the good news of Christmas in an engaging way. Shh! Don’t Wake the Baby is a title that is bound to become a family favourite (ISBN 978 1 915 705 235).
The Big Big Big Christmas captures the message of Christmas in a way that will appeal to the imagination of a young child. ‘The sun is so big that you could use it to toast 10 million marshmallows all in one go. …’ As you go through different things that are bigger and bigger and bigger then you discover how big God is and that He became a tiny baby at Christmas (ISBN 978 1 915 705 297).
Wow God! A kid’s guide to prayer. This takes the well-known prayer model of TSP – Thank You, Sorry, Please – and adds in the word Wow! Adding prayers of praise for how wonderful God is to the model. A rhyming book with lovely illustrations this is a great way to encourage kids to talk to God (ISBN 978 1 915 705 082).
For older children I would recommend Alistair Begg’s book C is for Christian – an A to Z Treasury of who we are in Christ. The illustrations are fun and thought-provoking. The teaching goes deep into the reality of Jesus through words like Adopted, Branch and Citizen. It will help your young reader discover how wonderful it is to be a Christian (ISBN 978 1 802 541 069).
The following title by Stephen Nichols will help teens and young adults build foundations of discipleship and doctrine. Bible Basics presents the big picture of the Bible. It orients the reader to the twists and turns, highlights and landmarks of the most important book ever written (ISBN 978 1 527 111 387).
Other notable mentions: the God’s Daring Dozen series on the minor prophets will be completed this month. All 12 titles will be available (ISBN 978 1 527 111 653).
Marty Machowski’s new Christmas devotional is available with seven Bible stories about God’s promises made, and another seven Bible stories about God’s promises kept. This is available in hardback and as a Kindle download (ISBN 978 1 645 074 151). Happy reading in November!
