It should be deeply troubling to everyone concerned with truth when one of the world’s most distinguished scientists, Francis S. Collins, feels the need to write a book confronting the growing distrust in scientific truth and evidence, yet such are the times we’re living in.

Post-truth has inevitably infected all claims to truth, with the spotlight on science becoming particularly prominent in discussion around climate change and government responses to Covid and vaccines. Dr Collins’ commitment to science and his Christian faith makes him a man committed to truth in all pursuits, his writing brimming with both wisdom and humility.

This book is an exploration of our current situation which includes stories and biographical content. Collins’ own experience in the Braver Angels programme, which brought together groups with vastly different feelings about the US government’s response to Covid, presents an optimistic picture for how we can come together despite disagreements that are so consequential for our safety and flourishing.
