After sharing the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus said: “Go and do likewise.” That is the mission of Samaritan’s Purse (SP) – to follow the example of Christ, working with the local church to demonstrate the love of God to people in need around the world.
SP are probably best known for their Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal – which is a wonderful way to get people involved in giving – yet their work goes far beyond that.
SP have a commitment to bringing practical help beside the hope of the gospel. Whether it’s responding to disasters, providing clean water, or helping communities rebuild, Samaritan’s Purse steps in with compassion.
Their website is full of stories – families being helped, lives changed, and God’s love being shared across the globe. It’s easy for people and churches to get involved, whether through donations, volunteering, or packing a simple shoebox. The design is clean and simple, with clear menus and up-to-date information.
For years I was involved in churches that got together and sent shoeboxes across the world to children who otherwise would not have received a gift. A few years ago, I got to watch firsthand as children from southern Africa opened these boxes. The joy on the faces of these children who have very little was unforgettable.
