Two things to be aware of in the next few months – Easter, and sporting events. For Easter the following titles would be good additions to your child’s library:

Jesus’ Easter Journey by Carine Mackenzie. Follow Jesus through the most pivotal week in human history with this beautifully crafted retelling of the Easter story.

From His triumphant entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey to His glorious ascension into heaven, young readers will experience every meaningful moment of Christ’s final earthly journey (ISBN 978 1 527 112 216).

A Jesus Easter by Barbara Reaoch. Explore God’s amazing rescue plan through an interactive family devotional. Complete with parent guide, discussion questions, activities, and space for journalling (ISBN 978 1 784 987 039).

Darkest Night/Brightest Day by Marty Machowski. Start a new Easter season tradition by reading this beautifully illustrated “upside-down” book that includes 14 Bible stories. Darkest Night, has seven stories that recount the events of Christ’s crucifixion and burial. Flip the book over and continue by reading Brightest Day with seven more stories that progress from Christ’s resurrection through to Pentecost (ISBN 978 1 645 072 089).

For your sports-mad children

Whether it’s the regular mix of rugby, football and cricket, or the forthcoming Winter Olympics, here are some sporting reads:

The Greatest Save Ever – this is its second edition, and it has been considerably added to since its previous publication. It takes all the trivia and facts about football and ties these into the message of Christ’s salvation – the greatest save ever (ISBN 978 1 527 114 012).

Eric’s Greatest Race by Tim Challies. One of the last century’s greatest sporting heroes has had a makeover with a graphic novel format, with the book receiving some excellent endorsements from the likes of Alistair Begg and Kevin DeYoung (ISBN 978 0 736 984 546).

Everyone a Winner by Jonathan Carswell and Emma Newrick. This is a good choice for an older child. This is a collection of true stories about sportsmen and women, past and present, including cricketer Henry Olonga, sports presenter Dan Walker, rugby international Euan Murray, and Olympian Eric Liddell (ISBN 978 1 910 587 119).
