In a show of unity 'not seen for over 20 years', 1,100 people attended a Pentecostal rally in what was the culmination of a 10-day mission event in Bradford.
The event, run by Sharing of Ministries Abroad, (SOMA) saw missioners descend on the West Yorkshire city, specifically focusing on reaching people within the BD7 postcode, with various outreach events staged with the help of St John’s Great Horton, St Wilfrid’s and St Columba’s churches.
A recent SOMA newsletter revealed that churches from across Bradford came together for the rally on the final Sunday of the mission event, described as ‘a unity not seen for over 20 years,’ and SOMA National Director Richard Moy was given the opportunity to speak to the crowd of 1,100.
Activities from across the 10-day event also included a showcase event which included stories, teaching and ministry, community barbecues, litter pickups, bouncy castles and face painting.
The mission event also featured table tennis from Christian British Paralympian table tennis player Abisoye Oyewande Jemiyo, who also discussed the importance of his Christian faith. Christian magician, Rod Williams, also made an appearance, entertaining crowds and discussing his journey through faith, too.
Missioners in Bradford were trained and commissioned together and sought wide-ranging opportunities to share the gospel. Some of them spoke to people outside a local Aldi store, at events associated with the overall event, and they also tried to share the gospel with Muslims.
Richard Moy said: ‘It was incredibly encouraging seeing the church come together for Pentecost Praise on a glorious sunny day, and to see many bystanders impacted, touched and moved by the love of Jesus on display from the church working together. [It was] a privilege to speak at this event. I hope it happens again.’
