Thriving FIEC women

Thrive, an FIEC Women in Ministry conference, was held at Glenfall House, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in mid-June.

Unsure of what to expect, I met servant-hearted women, serving sacrificially in their churches and relying on God. I came away with fresh ideas, helpful resources and new friends.

The lone man in the group, Greg Strain, pastor of Spicer Street in St. Albans, ministered throughout the conference, giving a series of passionate talks from Mark’s Gospel. He gently challenged us to reflect upon the power and person of Christ, and the freedom that we have in him; freedom from guilt and fear, and freedom to serve.

Greg warned of the danger of becoming ‘functional Christians’, teaching and speaking the gospel without engaging our own hearts. Greg’s insightful and specific applications, showed me how gospel truths should refresh and challenge me in my service for Christ.

Each day of Thrive also provided unrushed time in smaller groups to reflect on the teaching sessions, and to pray for one another. These were precious times to talk about real-life applications, and to learn from one another’s experiences. I left every session with new insights, practical advice, and a great sense of fellowship with likeminded women.
