The year-long search of Latimer Congregational Church, Beverley, came to an end on October 12 as Iain Clements was inducted to be the new minister.
Around 150 people gathered to celebrate the occasion and to pray God’s blessing on Iain and the fellowship.
The service was led by Mike Plant, the General Secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches (EFCC). The charge to the minister was given by Paul Levy, the minister of the International Presbyterian Church in Ealing, London, where Iain had served as assistant minister for five years. Preaching from 1 Thessalonians 2.1-16, Paul reminded us of the apostle’s example of hard work and holy living, of the priority of preaching the word, and of pastoring the flock gently as a mother or father with their children.
Latimer Church began well over a century ago as a mission to the Beverley shipyard workers. The building of ships here finished over 40 years ago, but the spiritual needs of this growing town are probably greater than ever. The fellowship is glad to acknowledge the goodness of God in leading and uniting them in the process of calling Iain, along with his wife Rachel.
