On May 10 approximately 175 women gathered in the beautiful little village of Bethersden for the annual ladies’ conference.
Lizzy Smallwood, a pastor’s wife from Dagenham, was the speaker. She gave a whistle-stop tour through the book of James with plenty of spiritual food to convict and help to marvel at the faithfulness of God.
There were three sessions looking at diagnosing our spiritual health, then applying the remedy God has provided.
Living as servants
The first session was a challenge to consider whether or not we consciously live as servants of Christ, or whether we are having an affair with the world? The second session focussed on how our tongue reveals the state of our heart, and the third session on the need for the ongoing death of self-love.
The remedy God has provided includes seeing God as he really is, remembering that the remedy begins, continues and ends with Christ, and finally our ongoing need to listen, heed and act on the Word of God.
Those present left knowing that a re-visit to James, and humbling ourselves before God, are both musts. The day also encouraged us to read, and plenty of book tasters were given.
