A premature baby is nurtured with eye-wateringly complex and costly care, as one floor away a decision is taken to abort a life that has known more weeks in the womb than its fragile neighbour.
It’s a scene John Wyatt, professor of Ethics and Perinatology at University College London, has witnessed in the UK medical arena and it drives him to urge others to engage with the life-shaping topic of health.
‘How is it possible in one medical system for these two contradictory activities to be going on?’ he asked an attentive crowd at St Peter’s Vere Street in London on 17 November.

The challenge facing us all, he said, is how believers can engage in this changing post-Christian society.
Questions and concerns about health are unavoidable in our lifetime, and this has driven the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) to produce an eight-part course laying out the biblical framework around this crucial topic. The Human Journey aims to incorporate health-care expertise into pastoral life and ministry.
Dr Peter Saunders, CEO of the CMF added: ‘Some of life’s biggest questions are questions related to our health. But these questions need to be seen in the greater context of God’s design for humanity, the universe and everything – his plan to unite all things under Jesus Christ’s rule and authority.
