The head of poverty relief charity Barnabas Aid International, Patrick Sookhdeo, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female member of staff, on February 23.
He was also found to have intimidated two employees who were due to give evidence against him. He was ordered to serve a three-month community order for all three charges, to run concurrently. He was also placed on a three-month curfew, and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £3,500 and a victim surcharge of £60.
The court heard that an internal investigation conducted by the charity in June cleared Sookhdeo of any wrongdoing.
Resigned
A spokesman for the charity clarified that Sookhdeo had resigned from both his trusteeship and international director role and will be considering his future over the next three months. The Barnabas organisations have not released any statement to supporters about the conviction or resignation at the time of going to press.
