New director

David Meredith

On 30 June Minister David Meredith of Smithton Free Church was offered the position of Missions Director for the Free Church of Scotland.

In mid July he accepted the position after spending two weeks in prayer and discussion with the elders at Smithton, as well as others in the wider Church.

David said: ‘I did not apply for the position and certainly did not covet that particular ministry as I am very happy here at Smithton. The Missions Board of the denomination approached me to engage in a conversation which in turn led to the call to service.’

On 18 September, David will have served 31 years as minister at the Evangelical and Presbyterian Smithton Free Church. He added: ‘The congregation has been so much part of our lives, frankly I hesitate even to think of what life will be like without playing such a major part in the church family here.

‘I would ask you to remember us as a couple and family as we face this change. We want to thank you from the very depths of our being for your love and support over many years.’

The position of Missions Director comes at a very significant time for the denomination as it plans for church planting, revitalisation and helping with strategic thinking both in the UK and internationally. David would still be involved in teaching, preaching and pastoral work, but in a wider context. His future involvement with Smithton is yet to be finalised.
