Demonstrating that the UK has accelerated its gradual slide away from biblical truth into a parachuteless cliff-edge plummet, was the news that a Christian couple have been denied the right to adopt the children they were fostering due to their views on same sex parenting, it was reported on 6 November.
The couple had always wanted to adopt the children and wrote to the council to appeal against the decision to block them adopting due to ‘some opinions and views’ they had expressed.
They said they believe that a child needs a mother and a father, and that this is not a homophobic view, but a biblical one.
Love
In an interview with The Times newspaper they said: ‘We love everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, and we love the children and believe that they would benefit from the foundation offered by a mother and a father. The decision… appears discriminatory to us and not related to the children’s needs. The children love us; we love them. All the reports show that we are a loving, caring and stable family. What more could a child need?’
This situation is far removed from 2011, when David Cameron issued a strong defence of traditional family life. He said: ‘We live in an age of equality, where people don’t like to see the differences between the sexes. But it goes without saying, two different people, nurturing the same child, will bring different things to the table.’
Light?
As en went to press it was reported that, following the involvement of the Christian Legal Centre, the council has recognised that the initial rejection was wrong and that the couple will now be assessed by someone from outside the council.
