Highgate Road Chapel hosted the second annual Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) UK Conference: ‘Sex and Sexuality in Creation, Culture and Church’ at the end of October.
Gavin Peacock, former Premier League football player, now a pastor in Canada and director of international outreach for CBMW, returned to Highgate Road Chapel for this conference.
During the first session, Gavin asserted that the fundamental problem is ‘a rebellion against the authority and sufficiency of God's Word’. In order to understand and engage with the matters of sex and sexuality in a secular culture, Christians need only turn to the Bible. The remaining sessions were built upon this foundation.
Light in a dark world
Throughout the day, Gavin upheld the beauty and power of the gospel as it offers true light in this dark and distorted world. Because Christ purchased sinners with his blood, redeemed sinners are reoriented by the Spirit to glorify God with the body. ‘The gospel isn't merely behaviour modification, but inner heart transformation’, he declared. ‘The cross levels us and lifts us’. This provides great relief to those who struggle with, or counsel others who struggle with, sexual identity or desire.
Gavin hopes to continue an active CBMW presence in the UK with annual conferences and increased partnership with local churches.
