Apparently not, for the Christian Workplace Group leader at Bedford Borough Council who was interviewed in March.
The venue, date and times for Christmas events are all booked into the council calendars and more than this, invitations have already gone out to senior managers and the town mayor asking if they can take part.
Behind this ambitious event planning, there is a wonderful story of how God’s grace has been at work in the small but dedicated group. After changes in the council and redundancies, the group meet together for encouragement. ‘It’s been a challenging time, but our group at the moment is an oasis for us to meet and pray for each other and for the challenges taking place within the council. We are keen now to step up and out again.’
Approved by the council
Sefton Council Christian Workplace Group was approved by the Council in 2015 as part of its commitment to equality and diversity. Each week, the group meet and eat lunch together, chat, study the Bible and discuss how it is relevant to work. Meetings are open to anyone and the group offers to pray with people about issues at work or at home. In Spring 2017, the group ran the Alpha course jointly with the Christian Group in the Health and Safety Executive.
