Bishopsdown: large church supports smaller church

Ali and Chris Benbow

Chris Benbow was officially inducted as the new assistant minister of Bishopdown Evangelical Church (BEC) in Salisbury on 17 September.

Chris had been invited to join the church earlier in the year, while completing his studies at Moorlands Theological College.

Chris said: ‘Serving the local church is a great privilege and I am grateful for the opportunity to formally join the fellowship. My prayer is that God’s name is honoured and his people are blessed, as my wife and myself enter this exciting new season of ministry.’

Character and call

The minister, Gavin Walker, led the service and preached from 1 Timothy 3 and 4 on the character, gifting and responsibility of an elder. The church’s account of the call was given and Pauline Manktelow, Henry Martin and Carol Walker prayed for Chris and Ali.

East London Tabernacle

The members of BEC are very grateful to ELT Baptist Church in East London (where Gavin and Carol Walker were members prior to moving to Salisbury) for giving financially towards the appointment – a great example of a larger church helping a smaller church in a different part of the country.
