On the first weekend of September the annual September Bible School was held in Whitby.
The theme was ‘Now show me your glory’, exploring how seeing the glory of God impacts upon one’s approach to him in suffering, in worship, and in life as a whole. Simon Arscott, Martin Woodier and James Swanson were the main speakers. Caring for Life gave a presentation.
The glory of God is revealed as he draws near to people in suffering, aware of its pain as he has shared in it. Jacob, wrestling with God and suffering his hip being put out of joint, cried out that he would not let go until God blessed him. Similarly, all should cling to God in the midst of suffering, trusting him to bless.
How people come to God in worship was considered, particularly together as a church. God cares about how he is worshipped and rejects false worship throughout the Bible, therefore it is important to consider whether worship is being done the way God has authorised in his Word, or just in whatever ways we feel best.
Glory of God
Finally, Isaiah was studied, who encountered the glory of God in a powerful way and it left him exposed, needing cleansing, and being changed to serve.
Seeing the glory of God will never leave one unchanged. Therefore, as is it sought, it must be expected to deeply impact one’s life.
