Around 1,000 gathered at Westminster Chapel, London from 25 – 27 June for the Evangelical Ministry Assembly. The theme this year was ‘Lifted Up: Preaching the Cross’.
Each day began with the well-known and beloved Don Carson walking through the 18th and 19th chapters of John. Carson sought both to explain the text and give ‘handles’ as to how we might explain and apply these verses to our congregations.
Josh Moody, Senior Pastor of College Church, Wheaton, Chicago, delivered two messages throughout the conference on Cross-Shaped Ministry. Using Mark 10 as a base, Moody provided valuable insights and challenging comments on the dangers of money and power in ministry.
A highlight for many was a ‘Pen Portrait’ on the life and ministry of Billy Graham given (from the pulpit of the Doctor!) by Hugh Palmer. Palmer explained how Graham never tired of preaching the work of Christ on the cross to any and all who would listen.
There was a wide range of afternoon seminars to choose from; from how to share the gospel with Muslim friends, to workshops helping pastors ‘brush up’ their preaching.
Another highlight was the joyful, loud singing. We were helpfully and ably supported by Music Ministry UK.
The majority of the talks will be up on the website shortly. Next year’s conference runs from 23 – 25 June and the theme will be ‘Doing the Word: More than Hearers’.
