The first in a series of free publications was launched in November, aiming to support parents as they try to grapple with what schools are doing in the name of equality and human rights.

The Christian Institute are keen to make for clear that their publication, Equipped Equality, does not constitute legal advice. Rather, it contains simple explanations and helpful scenarios based upon real life school situations where competing rights are pitted against each other.

It presents the information in an easy-to-read format explaining how schools cannot compel thought and expression, and that respect should not be conflated with agreement. One section is devoted to schools’ need to balance the rights of transgender pupils with the rights of others. Schools are able to turn down requests to accommodate a pupil’s trans status. Schools are not obliged to turn all toilets ‘gender neutral’ or it could be in breach of legislation that requires separate facilities for both sexes.
