The BBC is biased and ‘infused’ with secularism, a family conference has been told.
At the Family Education Trust (FET)’s annual conference in July, former BBC journalist Robin Aitken said the BBC has used its privileged position to promote socially liberal values.
Mr Aitken, author of The Noble Liar: How and Why the BBC Distorts the News to Promote a Liberal Agenda, said the national broadcaster is ‘infused with a secularism which it tries to pass off as neutrality but in fact masks a deep hostility to religion’.
He highlighted the disproportionate publicity given to Richard Dawkins’s book The God Delusion and the absence of fair-minded discussion on abortion.
Referring to government moves to force implementation of new abortion laws in Northern Ireland, Mr Aitken said the BBC portrayed the province’s restrictive abortion law as ‘obviously wrong and the UK Government right for imposing a liberal abortion law’.

He welcomed the recent introduction of the GB News channel and said that if successful, it could force the BBC to react and give greater consideration to the views of socially conservative organisations.
Mr Aitken encouraged conference delegates, saying: ‘They have truth on their side and the tide will turn.’
The FET, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is a non-political national educational trust which researches the causes and consequences of family breakdown.
Also speaking at the conference, Dr Sharon James, social policy analyst for The Christian Institute, warned how radical gender ideology cheats our children, ‘robbing them of the fundamental physical reality of their biological sex and denying them a firm knowledge of science and truth’.
She signposted delegates to how they can oppose gender ideology, such as through respecting parental authority, standing against activists, and opposing the planned ban on conversion therapy as it applies to trans issues.
‘Above all, we must tell the truth’, she said.
