Passion for Life – the movement which has been seeking to see the gospel of Christ preached across the British Isles this recent Easter and which is supported by over 750 churches – is celebrating some of the creative ways it has been used by churches to tell their families and communities about Jesus.
Dundonald Church in Wimbledon, part of Co-mission, held a South Africa-themed ‘Around the Braai with the Bodyguard’. It took 42kg of South African sausage to feed the nearly 300 people who attended the event. They heard some amazing stories from Rory Steyn, about his time as chief bodyguard to Nelson Mandela, and learned how the person of Jesus had an even bigger impact on his life.
Ollie Land, pastor of Elmstead Baptist Church, had a revealing conversation about Jesus with his barber after he noticed the church’s Life 22 banner. The barber asked if Easter was the most important festival for Christians and Ollie replied that if the resurrection didn’t happen, our faith is useless and he should pity any Christian. The barber has since agreed to read a copy of Colin Smith’s book Heaven, How I Got Here.
In Scotland, Burghead Free Church heard from Eddie Murison, once one of Scotland’s most notorious and violent criminals until he discovered life in Jesus. At Cwmbran, Wales, Pontrhydyrun Church events included an interview with ex-mafia member Slavko Hadzic and a talk about faith and science with Professor John Lennox.
All Souls Langham Place, London, hosted a Sports Quiz with Christians in Sport, where more than 100 guests enjoyed a six-round multimedia quiz, with prizes, and a talk by Rico Tice on the Christian faith.
Passion for Life Operations Lead, Le Fras Strydom, said: ‘It has been a joy to see so many churches unashamedly reach out with the message of Jesus.’
