‘Big Vision Christianity’ in Aberystwyth

The Aber Conference, run by the Evangelical Movement of Wales, is held every August in the Mid Wales seaside town of Aberystwyth. Gareth Davies was there and writes:

‘The highlight of my summer was attending the Aber Conference. Over the last few years, Aber has developed a more family feel but at the same time has not lost its preaching ethos.

‘The whole programme is centred around a morning and evening preaching meeting. The main speaker was Ian Parry who helpfully exhorted us to have a “Big Vision Christianity”. Four messages on “The plan of the Father”, “The glory of the Son”, “The presence of the Spirit” and “The Freedom of the church” spoke into our times. We may feel as Christians that we are marginalised but our God is certainly not!

‘Evening meetings were helpful too, Phil Swann showing us from Jude that it will be ok because of the God who is keeping us; Christopher Ash preached two messages from the Psalms urging us not to retreat from a broken world but to keep praising God within it. Paul Rees closed the evenings, with a comforting message from Ephesians 1, reminding us we are include in Christ.

‘There’s plenty more to get involved with, should you wish, from early(ish) morning prayer meetings, afternoon workshops focussed on key issues for Christians today, and evening fellowship groups where topics are looked at in more appropriate age groups as well as a whole programme of events for families and young people. Alternatively, you can just rest up in the afternoon’s and enjoy the beautiful Mid Wales scenery and beaches. It’s totally up to you.
